Flagstaff-Prescott, AZ is
one of
the fastest growing areas in the country, as well as Arizona. The Arbitron radio research firm ranks
the market #151, with over 300,000 residents. The market consists of a
cluster of smaller cities in Northern Arizona, including; Sedona,
Cottonwood, Williams, Camp Verde, Prescott Valley, and Jerome.
The market is served by a handful of TV stations, mostly Phoenix
translators, for the exception of Flagstaff NBC affiliate, and Gannett-owned KNAZ-TV.
The major newspaper for the region is Pulitzer-owned
Arizona Daily Sun.
However the radio market is very large, and has generated record
breaking revenues in the past 10 years. There are three major
radio companies who own the majority of the broadcast properties; new
entry Grenax Broadcasting, Guyann Broadcasting, and
Yavapai
Broadcasting. Due to the
rural, and demographic breakdown of the market, Country and Rock are
the most popular formats. Flagstaff is home to Northern Arizona University, and the
popular winter resort destination Snowbowl.
